    Job Title: Executive Director

    Reports to: Board of Directors

    FSLA Status: Part Time Exempt

    Salary: $30,000


    SummaryJob Description: The Executive Director (E.D.) for Daring Adventures, a 501(c) 3 nonprofit, is a part time position. The E.D. is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the organization according to the strategic direction set by the Board of Directors. The E.D. is responsible for all areas of revenue development including fee for service, annual giving, planned giving, grants, special events and endowment building. Provides leadership by leveraging resources and ensuring the values, growth and engagement of Daring Adventures is sustained within the community.


    Distinguishing features: The E.D. may be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays to accommodate program activities. Supervision is received from the Board of Directors, who review work through observation, conferences, reports, and results achieved.


    Primary Responsibilities

    • Directs and manages the operations of Daring Adventures.

    • Develops and implements the established strategic goals and objectives in accordance with the Daring Adventures business model.

    • Builds and supports the Board of Directors in fulfilling governance guidelines and practices.

    • Identifies opportunities and strategically develops partnerships and collaborations.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Revenue Development

    • Develops new philanthropic strategies and increases existing donor giving.

    • Grows and manages fund development through annual giving, planned giving, grants, special events, major gifts, and endowment building.

    • Develops and submits grant applications

    • Ensures development, management, and effective collaboration with program participants, potential donors and community partners.

    • Manages key donor relationships.

    • Identifies and cultivates relationships for earned revenue.

    Leadership

    • Directs and manages the day-to-day operations of Daring Adventures.

    • Implements the strategic plan in collaboration with the Board of Directors and makes recommendations for updates on a bi-annual basis.

    • Participates in Daring Adventures programs whenever possible to build and maintain relationships with the volunteers and participants.

    • Collaborates with other organizations to maximize the impact of Daring Adventures.

    • Attracts, manages and retains staff, contractors and volunteers to ensure programs are successful and align with the overall strategic plan.

    • Participates with the Board of Directors in developing a vision and strategic plan to guide the organization.

    • Identifies, assesses and informs the Board of Directors of internal and external issues that affect the organization.

    • Acts as a professional advisor to the Board of Directors on all aspects of the organization’s activities.

    • Fosters effective teamwork between the Board and the E. D. and the E. D. and staff.

    • Acts as a spokesperson for the organization.

    • Conducts official correspondence on behalf of the Board as appropriate and jointly with the Board when appropriate.

    • Represents the organization at community activities to enhance the organization’s community profile

    • Develops and Implements measureable outcomes for the organization to align with the board developed goals.

    Financial and Systems Management

    • Works with staff and board (Finance Committee) to prepare comprehensive budget.

    • Works with the Board to secure adequate funding for the operation of the organization.

    • Researches funding sources, oversees the development of fundraising plans and writes funding proposals to increase the funds of the organization.

    • Participates in fundraising activities as appropriate.

    • Approves expenditures within the authority delegated by the Board.

    • Works with the Finance Committee to ensure that sound bookkeeping and accounting procedures are followed.

    • Administers the funds of the organization according to the approved budget and monitors the monthly cash flow of the organization.

    • Works with the Finance Committee/Treasurer to ensure that comprehensive, regular reports on the revenues and expenditure of the organization are provided to the Board.

    Marketing and Communications

    • Champions the mission of Daring Adventures to achieve and maintain a positive image to key stakeholders, sponsors, donors and policy makers.

    • Serves as the primary external voice of Daring Adventures.

    Marketing and Communications continued

    • Represents Daring Adventures in media, communication and marketing campaigns.

    • Creates Monthly Newsletter.

    • Provides oversight of Daring Adventures website.

    • Creates marketing materials for the organization and monitors the appropriate look and distribution of all items.

    • Develops and cultivates contacts with corporate, philanthropic, media, service provider and community sectors.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree with minimum of three to five years of nonprofit leadership experience

    • Minimum of three years of fundraising experience required

    • Two years of professional or volunteer experience working with the disability community

    • Excellent community relations skills

    • Dynamic individual with excellent written and oral communication skills

    • Capability to work independently

    • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a small team of employees and large volunteer base

    • Ability to travel in-state as necessary

    Special Requirement(s):

    • Must possess a valid Arizona Drivers’ License by hire date.

    • Current Fingerprint clearance card required. Hiring contingent upon passing background check.

    PREFERED EXPERIENCE

    • Working knowledge of adaptive recreation programming

    • Experience working with the disability community in Arizona

    • First Aid/CPR Certification

    • Graduate degree preferred
