For the ASTRA Fall Conference State of Therapeutic Recreation in Arizona: Goals, Dreams & Aspirations Hosted by the ASU ASTRA Student Club and The School of Community Resources and Development. Having had the privilege to participate in the planning and organizing of several conferences, it is a challenge to find and secure viable speakers. Keeping in line with the upcoming conference theme, ASTRA is testing the process of utilizing the Call for Papers procedures. It is my hope, that ASTRA will be able to attract a more diverse pool of speakers to our conferences by publicizing our conferences on the ATRA listserve. In addition, ASTRA will be attempting to offer co-occurring sessions during the November conference. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that these simple changes can result in more educational and meaningful conference experiences for ASTRA members.

The ASTRA Board of Directors is looking to have administrators and professionals from the below treatment areas to help us pave the way for our professional future. If you know of any potential speakers from one of the following areas, Pediatrics, School System, Behavioral Health, Aging, Physical Disabilities, and/or Inclusion, please contact them about presenting at the event

ASTRA has developed a Call for Papers and a Prospective Speaker’s Letter to help interested individuals focus their presentation to the conference’s theme. Both documents are available on the ASTRA website or by emailing me @ beth.dietrich@va.gov or Shannon@ shangirl7@gmail.com. It is the ASTRA Board of Director’s hope that you will see the value in participating in a conference that will hopefully catapult our professional movement in our state. More detailed conference information will be available on the website, in the next newsletter, and via email blasts by October 1st, 2013.

Please submit Call for Papers by August 23, 2013.
